It's ALL in the list

The more we do, the more we read and listen to, the more we copy, extract, research, the more we realise it's ALL in LIST.

Traditional businesses have often spoken about the database, the people you know, the people that know you, and more importantly the people that know and trust you. The old adage "it's not what you know, but who you know that counts", rings truer today than ever before.
Even (perhaps especially) in this virtual world of nameless, faceless people, with pseudonyms, aliases and alter-egos, hidden and protected by technology, you need to know who your are dealing with, listening to, following, buying from, buying because of.

So, you may well ask, what has all this got to do with the LIST? Well ..... EVERYTHING!

You will never build a list, or even if you do, you will not maintain it, if the people on that list do not very quickly build a basic level of trust in you and the message/information you are putting out to them. Once they've done that, your hard work really starts! Now you've got to continue to give them quality input to grow and develop that level of trust and let them see that what you do deliver to them is of interest/value.

One of the joys of technology is the delete and unsubscribe buttons, on your keyboard and in your email. Extremely easy to get in, and just as easy to get out of a list.

OK, so having said all that, just how do you start to build that list? Well I'd suggest for starters you check this little video out, it's designed by one of the guys out there that I've started to trust, as someone who offers honest value and advice, and on top of all that has collected together an amazing group of people and tools to help other do what he does .... BUILD LISTS!

Where have we been?

It's been almost two years since we last posted something on this blog! Why? You may well ask.

Well that's a good question!

Google Adwords Learning Center: Looks pretty good... managed to find 20 minutes to go through these first 3 lessons and their quizzes. Gets embarrassing to realise what information one doesn't retain - I got a few wrong before I got a 100% on the third quiz.

A TSUNAMI Of Information

Phew... just managed to come up for air again after a maelstrom of very WELCOME holidays and working on NEW projects took up most of our attention over the last four weeks.

In that time we have been literally flooded by information from various gurus that we have been following. I get the image of being tumbled around in a maelstrom of debris after a tsunami has just hit, not knowing which way is up... and having people tapping me on the shoulder to read something more or to sell me something.

It would be so easy to give up amidst this information overload. But 'give up' we won't!

Instead, I can mention that we had a fantastic meeting with a Google employee who quite simple reminded us to 'learn to swim first'. We were pointed to the Google AdWords: Learning Center. Here you can become a qualified Google Advertising Professional. And that's where we're beginning our focused journey again as 2007 gets under way.
